Does NSFAS Pay For Unisa Postgrad Qualifications – NSFAS provides bursaries for South African students to pursue higher education if they are unable to afford it on their own. While NSFAS funds most tertiary institutions in the country, not all courses are covered.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides fully subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working-class South Africans.
The bursary scheme assists many students with financial assistance across the country, who are enrolled at one of South Africa’s various institutions of higher learning, including the University of South Africa (Unisa).

However, NSFAS does not fund any postgraduate courses. The scheme will only cover undergraduate studies.
NSFAS provides financial assistance in the form of bursaries to eligible students at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges in South Africa.
NSFAS covers tuition fees, and accommodation fees as well as provides students with transport, living, and book allowances to make sure that their higher education is covered far beyond what is expected.
If you’ve applied to be funded through NSFAS but you haven’t received any word on whether you’ve been approved for NSFAS yet, you can check your application status by logging into your myNSFAS account and tracking your application progress.
Here, you will receive more information on which stage your application is at.
Once approved for the bursary, the only requirement to stay funded is that students need to pass their modules. However, NSFAS does give grace in case something happens and allows students to fail one year and remain funded.
